APARTMENT RENOVATION | New York, New York

The one-bedroom, 1-1/2 bathroom apartment located on the Upper Eastside underwent a massive renovation to better suit the client’s needs and extensive art collection. The renovation included several updates such as opening the foyer to the living room, updating both bathrooms, providing additional storage space, and installing a laundry closet.

The design concept aimed to capture the elegance and beauty of the existing spaces by opening the apartment and allowing natural light to flood all the rooms. A neutral color scheme with white walls and wide plank white oak wood floors was chosen to serve as a backdrop for the art pieces, which would bring color into the space.

The use of mid-century furniture helped define the different areas and created an interesting contrast with the Edwardian style fireplace, blending the old and new elements.

An innovative feature of the design was the knife-edge ceiling with LED lighting, which allowed the focus to be on displaying the art while still showcasing the visible beams and 11-foot ceilings.

Overall, the renovation transformed the traditionally laid-out, shabby-chic, pre-war co-op apartment into an exceptionally clean, airy, and light-filled space that maximizes the south-facing views.
